Ftp transfert in active mode

Dear all,

I hav’got some issues with active ftp transfert through HAProxy. You can find my configuration bellow.
Please note that i’ve no iptable or firewall behind the client the haproxy or the ftp server.
Passive ftp through haproxy is working only active is failing.
Active ftp is working directly (without haproxy)

I’ve got the following error when I’m tryng to connect :

Login successful.
Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
ftp> passive
Passive mode off.
ftp> get toto
local: toto remote: toto
500 Illegal PORT command.
ftp: bind: Address already in use

Can you help me please ?

Thanks !

I don’t think its possible to reverse-proxy active FTP, but I guess you can check your vsftpd log, which will indicate the reason for the “500 Illegal PORT command” error.

I assume this is because the mismatch between the Control FTP session source address (corresponding to haproxy) and the IP in the PORT command, which will be the original, client IP address.

Use a proper FTP reverse proxy for this, or just switch to modern protocol. But the combination between haproxy (a TCP proxy) and active FTP likely won’t yield success.
